The 2011 PSU – BSU English Camp had the biggest turnout in the event’s nine-year history. Once again, PSU staff members from various campuses, as well as several from Ball State University, went well beyond the call of duty to put together the journey of a lifetime for more than 125 Thai students. In addition, 17 native English speakers from the USA donated considerable time and effort to provide a first-class learning experience for the eager campers.
This year’s itinerary, from May 12th to May 30th, included stops in Bangkok, Hua Hin, Trang, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani, and Ko Samui. To mention just a few of the activities outside the classroom, there was snorkeling in the Andaman Sea, a trip to James Bond Island, a visit to the Plan Toys factory, a botanical garden canopy tour, a cultural show at the Rose Garden, a Visakha Bucha Day candlelit circumambulation, and shopping and strolling night markets and beaches.
After two such heartfelt weeks together, when the day came to say “Farewell” there were no dry eyes. English Camp once again proved to be a true cultural exchange and an inspiration for all involved.
