Developing Academic Cooperation with Africa

Mr. Phichit Rerngsangvatana, Vice President, and Associate Professor Dr. Chatchai Ratanachai, Vice President for Outreach and International Affairs, visited Botswana and Namibia from November 21 to December 1, 2009. The objective of their visit was to establish academic cooperation with the universities from these countries, as well as to promote PSU’s programs of study among African students. They were part of a larger Thai delegation representing several Higher Education Institutions, such as the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA),

Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Khon Kaen University, and Assumption University. The delegation was led by Professor Dr. Kanok Wongtrangan, Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Mr. Manoth Suksabjarern, Director of Thai Cooperation Branch II of TICA.

The official program of visit included discussions with representatives of Botswana and Namibian universities, such as University of Namibia, Polytechnic of Namibia, University of Botswana, as well as courtesy meetings with the Minister of Education of Namibia and Minister of Education and Skills Development of Botswana. The Thai representatives participated also into Educational Exhibitions in both countries, in order to make a direct contact with African students and present our programs of study to them.

For Prince of Songkla University, this visit marks a great beginning for the relationship between PSU and African universities, and responds to the invitation made by the delegation from Botswana and Namibia that visited PSU on June 23, 2009.
